Increasing Community Wellness and Self-Reliance through a Permaculture Food Garden

March 13, 2007

Food and Trees for Africa

On behalf of the Board of Food and Trees for Africa (FTFA), we thank you for your donation R52,500 for the A Re Direng Permaculture food garden project. The funds were received by FTFA mid February 2007.

The implementation of the project will commence at the end of March 2007 and a schedule will be sent to you after the first meeting with the beneficiaries based on their input. The SASIX contribution will cover the training and development of a Permaculture food garden for the under-serviced community of Makapanstad in the North West province.

The A Re Direng Care Givers Project operates from a rural clinic in Moretele. They focus specifically on those suffering from HIV/AIDS, but also include cancer and tuberculosis patients. A piece of land on their property has been allocated for the use of a food garden which would serve the clinic and surrounding community members. This Permaculture project aims to provide nutritious vegetables and plants that can be used for medicinal purposes.

Full details of what will be taught and more detail on the project is in the proposal sent to SASIX in June 2006.

Thank you once again for your continued support to our organisation.
