Teacher training and materials provision for Eastern Cape primary schools
February 12, 2007
PROJECT ACTIVITIES TO DATE
Five Grade 5 and five Grade 7 Business VENTURES kits produced.
Educator training conducted on 1 February 2007 for Grade 7 educators and on 6 February for Grade 5 educators at Sonwabile Primary School in the Stutterheim District. Departmental (Department of Education (DoE)) requirements and commitments limited training to one day per grade instead of the usual two days. The second day of training will now take the form of one-on-one, in-classroom training with the educators who attended the one-day training; this one-on-one training will occur at the individual schools from 12 to 23 February 2007.
Trained educators were handed the Business VENTURES materials for their schools.
Schools could only release one educator per grade per time. Five Grade 5 and eight Grade 7 educators were trained (the additional educators are from schools which had received Business VENTURES materials before).
Challenges
- Schools could only release one educator per grade at any one time.
- Educators were allowed only one day to attend training.
- The educator from Ngudle Primary could not attend because of a car breakdown on the way to the training.
- (Additional training will take place from 12 to 23 February to address the challenges mentioned above.)
ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REPORTING PERIOD
- Conduct first follow-up support with trained educators in second term.
- Conduct second follow-up support with trained educators in third term.
